This Friday the 1st of May, Salt will join in the live stream of an annual youth event called KYCK, which usually happens at Katoomba Christian Convention each year.

The program will start at 7pm and finish at 8.30pm. Salt will run discussion groups until 9pm. Here’s a snapshot of what will be happening:

  • Watch some of the best KYCK moments we’ve shared together
  • Have some fun with MC’s Ben and Katie
  • Sing along with songs from our KYCK bands
  • Listen to a talk from Hebrews 10:19-25 – ‘Let us not give up!’

They’ll be asking for youth to be involved in various ways on the night, these opportunities will be announced on Facebook and Instagram – so stay connected!

Salt will still gather together online as normal to show the event through our usual zoom link. For the link to join please contact Mel Clement (contact details in the church directory)

Is there more to life than this?

In our six week Life course we look into life with Jesus, and his claim to offer all who believe in him ‘life to the full.’ This term we’ll be running the course online through Zoom, but everyone will still have a good chance to either listen to the discussion, or ask as many questions as they like. Course materials supplied.

There has never been a better opportunity to invite your friends to join us – even if they live a long way away, consider inviting them and doing the course together. Also, consider joining us together with others in your household!

Course Details

When: 7.30-9pm Tuesday nights starting 12th May
Cost: Free
RSVP: Thomas McConaghey by phone or email (his details are in the church directory) or fill in the contact form here

Living out the gospel in today’s world means we need to understand and internalise the truth about God and his plan for the world. Paul’s letter to the Romans remains one of the most important expressions of Christian truth ever written. In our upcoming sermon series on the Book of Romans we’ll dive into this message that confronts us with who we are, who God is, and what our place in this world ought to be.

“It is impossible to read or to meditate on this letter too much or too well.”

Martin Luther in his ‘Preface to Romans’

“When anyone understands this Epistle, he has a passage opened to him to the understanding of the whole Scripture.”

John Calvin regarding Book of Romans

Moore College’s PTC is currently discounted!

Many of us have more time on our hands at the moment and this could be just the opportunity we need to dig deeper into God’s Word. Moore College’s online Preliminary Theological Certificate (PTC) is currently offering subjects at a discounted rate.

We’ll be starting a sermon series on the book of Romans in a few weeks so this could be a great time to take the PTC Romans course, by yourself or with others from The Lakes. If you’d like to know more about how PTC works or would like to undertake a subject, need some guidance or someone to chat through theological questions with, contact Darren Box (his details are in the church directory).

Have a listen to Hayley sharing the value of studying a PTC subject in the video above!

ANZAC day is coming up. This Sunday, as we reflect on the sacrifice of men and women who have served in Australian armed forces, we have a special guest speaker Andrew Nixon who will be joining our live stream in his navy uniform and speaking to us on John 15:13:

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”.

This verse applies to those who have fought and died to protect our freedom but even more so, points us towards the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus in our place.

Andrew is married to Jenny and they have four children, all currently doing school or university studies from home. He is a keen gardener and looks forward to being able to watch the Sydney Swans play again. Formerly an officer in the Royal Australian Navy, he now serves as a Chaplain in the RAN Reserves, as well as being the head of pastoral care and volunteer services at Hammondcare.

Please join us at 9am this Sunday via live-stream or find our YouTube channel by clicking here or searching for The Lakes Church NSW and remember to hit the subscribe button to find us easily next time.

Salt online

Our Salt youth team recognises that it’s been a while since your teens have had an opportunity to connect with one another. This is why we’re running Salt through the school holidays on the 17th and 24th of April, continuing on into term 2. We had an encouraging gathering last Friday and it was great to see so many of our teens connecting and engaging with each other and God’s word.

7pm Fridays

Video chat sessions with organised activities will start from 7pm. We’ll catch up and play a game all together, hear a talk from the Bible and then split up into age and gender groups to do a short bible study and chat.Parents of current Salt teens will have received the zoom link via email. If you’d like more info or the link for your teen to join, please contact Mel Clement (her details are in the church directory). Save the date and let your teens know!

Kids Holiday Club online

Salt Lite will not be running during the school holidays, however we’re running a Kids Club for K-6 children to catch up with each other and have some fun together. Our kids ministry leaders can’t wait to hang out with them!

Wednesdays & Fridays during the school holidays at 5pm-5.30pm

Parents of current K-6 children will have received the zoom link via email. If you’d like more info or the link for your child to join, please contact Mel Clement (her details are in the church directory). Save the date and let your kids know!

Last week Al Stewart started as the new National Director of the FIEC (Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches). We’ll have the privilege of meeting him and hearing him preach this Sunday. For now, here’s a short video of him introducing himself.
